É o único em seu gênero, Euryceros, que pertence a família Vangidae, quase toda restrita a Madagáscar.
Habita as florestas primárias do norte e nordeste da ilha, geralmente abaixo de 800 metros.
Difícil confundi-lo com qualquer outra ave da região, pois seu bico é característico apenas dessa espécie.
Mede cerca de 30 cm ,sendo o macho e a fêmea de igual coloração.
Monogâmicos, reproduzem de outubro à janeiro. O ninho feito na bifurcação de um galho à cerca de 2 a 4 metros do solo é lar de 2 ou 3 filhotes. Segundo a IUCN, trata-se de espécie ameaçada, devido a destruição do habitat e a sua dificuldade em se adaptar a ambientes antrópicos.
Alimenta-se de invertebrados, como insetos, caranguejos, caracóis e até de vertebrados, como camaleões, lagartos e também anfíbios.
Nessa Ilustração representei um indivíduo da espécie em meio a confusão de folhas e galhos que são o ambiente mais comum de se observa-los dentro da mata.
Seu bico, adunco é de um azul incrível!!
